“Love is patient. Love is kind. It is not envious or boastful. It is not rude or self seeking. Love is not easily angered. Love forgives. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the Truth. Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes and always preserves. Love never fails."
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Growing up one of my teachers encouraged us to substitute our own names for "Love" in this passage. She said to do it after we said our prayers each night-- to see how we did that day. Then she said something that has stuck with me for life. She said, "This passage and this exercise will mature and change you in ways you can't imagine. It will make you a better friend, a better sibling, a better child to your parents, and a better citizen of the world. You will be proud of yourself because you worked to put substance into your character. And other people will really notice how you are."
