IST - Intervention Support Team

What is IST?

IST (Intervention Support Team) is a problem-solving process that develops a partnership between the school and the parents in their united effort to improve a child’s school performance. 

This process can be initiated to help students who are experiencing academic, behavioral, or social-emotional difficulty. 

Who are the people on an IST team?

•  The child’s teacher
•  The parents
• At least one member of school administration
• A faculty member who has received IST training
• One or more representatives from the Delaware County Intermediate Unit
  • This member may be the school counselor, the school psychologist, the remedial reading teacher, speech therapist, etc.

What happens during an IST meeting?

• The classroom teacher will discuss the learning and/or behavioral difficulties that the child is having.
• The parents are encouraged to share their input.
• The team develops goals for the child.
•  Strategies for achieving this goal are suggested.
• A follow-up meeting is scheduled to evaluate the child’s progress.
