Dear St. Dorothy Families,
I hope you have enjoyed the gifts of our Christmas season. The hope and love that only our Savior’s birth can give is among those I wish for you. May God bless your families this New Year with safety, health and happiness.
The faculty and I would like to extend a huge ‘THANK YOU’ to all our families who so generously support the Elf Fund. We are grateful for those who run this fund and your family gift this Christmas season! We recognize not only this generous monetary gift, but also your gift of time. Thank you to Home and School for providing us with our Christmas breakfast celebration and to all the parents who covered classrooms so we could spend time together as faculty and staff during this Christmas celebration. We appreciate all you do for our school and community. Thank you!
All grades return to school on Tuesday, January 3rd for a full day of school. Please do not leave your child unattended at our doors. Doors open at 7:45 AM. CARES begins at 7:00 AM for anyone who needs our services prior to opening. We look forward to welcoming you back after the New Year!
You are welcome to join us for First Friday Mass and awards that will take place on Friday, January 6th at 9:00 AM. We are always proud of all our students in trying and giving their best in all they do. I join you in commending your children for giving their best effort in the classroom and at home. Effort is the key to success! I try and give this message often, I hope they know and feel the effects of their hard work and create a goal for themselves with your guidance. Some exciting news to share, our fifth grade teacher, Miss Hartman, became engaged during our Christmas break! We are very excited to share in this special time and wish Miss Hartman and her fiancé, Greg, much happiness in their planning and preparation for a future filled with continued joy and blessings. Congratulations, Miss Hartman!
We celebrate and honor the great teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 16th. There will be no school for students on this day. In honor of Dr. King we recognize and encourage giving service for the sake of others. We have many opportunities in our community to do for others. Thank you, everyone, for all you do so generously. I am very proud of our altar servers, cantors, choir, lectors, service corps members and all that take part in our school service projects so we can collectively give back to our surrounding communities and all those in need. If your child takes part in service outside of our school please share some pictures and a description with us so we can recognize the good they do for others.
I am excited to hear the joyous sounds of our school musicians. Mr. Banks, school band instructor, invites us to a winter band concert on Thursday, January 19th at 7:00 PM in the school gym as our students share their talents. Our school students and faculty will hear the concert during the school day.
St. Dorothy’s CYO will be holding their annual trivia night on Saturday, February 4th at 7:30 PM. Home and School will be sharing the registration form in the weekly email.
Catholic School’s Week (CSW)begins on Sunday, January 29th with the opening Mass at 11:00 AM. Open house will follow Mass until 1:00 PM. We hope you plan to visit and bring any interested neighbors. Please look to our Home and School email with further information regarding the details of our CSW events as they are planned.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is booked and in the planning, I hope you can make the Sunday family event on January 29th. Students also have the opportunity to shop and purchase during the school day that week. Look to teacher emails with the classroom schedule.
Wishing you and your families a very Happy New Year! Many blessings,
